D.O. cider tasting at the Hernani Cod Week

Hernani Cod Week will be held from October 6 to 17.

The guided tasting of D.O. ciders will be on October 9 at 7:00 p.m.

The 13th Cod Week, organized by the City Council and the Berriak Association, will take place from October 6 to 17. Today, October 2, the professional jury, consisting of Aritz Ansola (Sansonategi Jatetxea), Miren Lukas (Oa gozategia), Ane Zeberio (Arriatzu baserria), and Aitzol Zugasti (AZ Gastronomia), met to taste all of this year's pintxos and give their verdict. However, we won't reveal this year's winning pintxo until October 17.

People will be able to taste the dishes that the municipality's bars and restaurants have prepared with cod as the main ingredient from October 6 to 17. During those days, citizens will also be able to vote for their favorite pintxos, as a prize will also be awarded in that category.

The presentation of Cod Week was attended by Mayor Xabier Lertxundi, Councilor for Local Development Patxi Ibarguren, and Berriak Board member Gonzalo Saez Ondarroa. Also present were Amaia Zubeldia, representing Euskal Sagardoa and Sagardoa Route, and the professional jury.

The event will be held from October 6th to 17th with a very extensive program

• October 6th to 17th: Popular cod pintxo competition between bars. Game: Where's Pil-Pil? Whoever finds our friend in three shops will receive a prize.
• October 7th, 9th, 14th, and 16th: This week's cod mascot will be slinging sauce down the street! If you find Pil-Pil, take a photo with him and send it via WhatsApp to 676 194 803. You'll be entered into a drawing for a gift pack.
• October 9th: Guided tasting led by winemaker and sommelier Mikel Garaizabal.
• October 10th: Kaxko streets open to pedestrians and a drawing for a €100 voucher. Rockalean.
• October 17th: Awards ceremony.

Guided tasting of Euskal Sagardoa ciders and pintxos, a new addition

This year, there will be a new activity during Cod Week. Hernani City Council, Berriak, and Euskal Sagardoa have organized a guided tasting combining cod pintxos and cider.

Winemaker and sommelier Mikel Garaizabal will lead the session on October 9th at Ezkiaga Promenade (in case of rain, at Atsegindegi). Participants will try four participating Cod Week pintxos paired with cider.

In this tasting, we will taste ciders with the Euskal Sagardoa Designation of Origin and special ciders accompanied by four pintxos prepared for Cod Week. The tasting will be guided by winemaker and sommelier Mikel Garaizabal.

25 bars and restaurants participating this year

This year's Codfish Week will feature 25 bars and restaurants: Aieko; Andrekale 21; Apeadero; Aralar; Atxur; Café Arri; Deportibo; Dori Berri; Errioguarda-enea; Garin; Goiz Eguzki; Gunea; Guria; Harresi; Joxemari; Karrero; Kixkal; Latxunbe; Rioja; Tamer; Tripontzi; Txilibita; Txoko; Zinkoenea; and Zumardi. On behalf of the professional jury, Ane Zeberio highlighted the "originality" of the pintxos presented.

The price of each pintxo will be €2.50. Starting Monday, the brochure with all the details about this year's Codfish Week will be available at each establishment.

On October 17th, the winning pintxos will be announced, according to both the professional and public juries. This afternoon, a txaranga (a traditional band) will liven up the town's streets.

In addition, this year the "Where is Pil-Pil?" competition will be held in the town's establishments. On October 10th, Codfish Week will coincide with Hartu kalea! (a traditional band's festival), so the streets of the historic center will be closed to traffic starting at 10:00 a.m. That evening, there will be a Rockalean concert (the time will be set earlier to join the feminist movement's call for Palestine).

In addition, online voting will be disabled on October 15th for the duration of the strike in support of Palestine called by the unions.
