EXPERIENCE

Get to know the heart of Basque culture, the history of the sea and cider with a visit to the reconstruction of the whaling ship San Juan and an experience in a cider house with the traditional cider house menu! We will meet in San Sebastián, and with our guide/driver we will go to the Albaola maritime museum. This experience invites you to discover the cultural and gastronomic heritage of the Basques. In the 16th century, Basque sailors embarked on long voyages to Newfoundland to hunt whales and fish cod, carrying cider as their main drink – they consumed up to 3 liters per day! Most of the cider was produced in local farmhouses. At Albaola, you will see the reconstruction of the San Juan, a 16th-century whaling ship that sank off the Canadian coast. Once the cultural visit is complete, we will go to a local cider house to enjoy a guided visit, cider tasting, and the traditional cider house menu. After the meal, the guide will return you to the meeting point.
