A perfect plan for those who want to immerse themselves in authentic Basque culture
A bit of history: remonte and Basque pelota
Basque pelota is one of the oldest and most representative sports of the Basque Country. Its origins date back to medieval European games, but here it evolved into a true cultural symbol. Among its different disciplines, remonte stands out for its spectacular nature, speed, and technique.

Remonte is played with a curved cesta that allows players to throw the ball at great speed against the fronton. It requires reflexes, precision, strength, and extensive practice, and has filled frontons for decades.

Live the experience from the inside
In this activity, you won’t just learn about the sport—you’ll experience it firsthand. The day begins with a visit to one of the largest fronton in the Basque Country, an impressive venue that has hosted major matches for decades.

There, you’ll meet a professional remonte player who will introduce you to the sport from the inside. You’ll discover its history, curiosities, techniques, anecdotes, and secrets.

You’ll also learn about the ball itself—its weight, composition, and how it affects each shot. Every detail matters in a sport where speeds can exceed 200 km/h.

After the explanation comes the most exciting moment: ¡it’s time to play! Participants will have the chance to try throwing the ball with the cesta, feel the challenge of remonte, and understand why it is such a unique sport.

During the pelota remonte activity, we’re launching a small challenge: the winner will receive an official jersey handed over by a professional remonte player.

To bring the activity to a close, we will offer a tasting of fresh apple juice accompanied by a carefully selected assortment of apple-based sweets, which you can enjoy at the same fronton.

From the fronton to the cider house: living tradition
The experience continues with another cornerstone of Basque culture: natural cider. and Basque cider cellars.

We will visit a traditional cider house, where you’ll learn about the entire production process. From the apple orchard to the production area, you’ll see how cider is made using methods passed down through generations.

Cider tradition in the Basque Country is much more than making a drink—it’s a social ritual. During the txotx season, barrels are opened and guests taste cider directly from them.

You’ll taste different ciders with the Euskal Sagardoa designation of origin label, both from bottles and straight from the barrels.

The grand finale: cider house menu
To complete the day, you’ll enjoy the traditional cider house menu, a simple yet hearty gastronomic experience that is central to this culture.
The menu includes:
- Cod omelette
- Fried cod with peppers
- Grilled T-bone steak
- Idiazabal cheese with walnuts and quince
All accompanied, of course, by unlimited cider straight from the barrels.

An experience for all the senses
This is much more than an excursion—it’s a journey to the heart of the Basque Country. Sport, history, tradition, and gastronomy come together in one complete experience.
From the thrill of remonte to the taste of freshly poured cider, every moment is designed to create unforgettable memories.
