New gastronomic experiences for 2024

Through these new activities you will immerse yourself in the roots of our land and enjoy our most original culinary experiences. Get ready to immerse yourself in the origins of Basque culture through local food, wine and cider!

These are the new activities for 2024:

1. WINERY AND CIDER CELLAR

This experience unites two of the most deeply rooted drinks in the Basque Country: wine and natural cider.

Bodegas Valdemar is a family passion, carried on by Jesús and Ana Martinez, the fourth generation of the Martinez Bujanda family. They have been able to transmit generation after generation the love for the land, the passion for great wines and their pioneering character. Today, they have international recognition thanks to never stopping learning and innovating to take the art of wine making beyond their borders. We will enter different spaces of the winery where we will have the opportunity to learn about the elaboration process, and after discovering all the secrets of the winery and its wine, we will taste their precious drink.

Once the visit to Bodegas Valdemar is over, we will go to one of our Basque cider houses, where you will meet the family that runs it, in addition to taking a tour of the apple orchard and the cider-making areas. You will taste the natural cider that the family makes with so much care, directly from the kupelas and also in bottles. To round off the visit, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the traditional cider house menu: homemade appetizer, cod omelette, fried cod, T-bone steak and Idiazabal cheese with walnuts and quince.

2. AÑANA SALT VALLEY AND CIDER CELLAR

Join us on a culinary and cultural journey where salt and cider become the main characters.

Your odyssey will begin in the Añana Salt Valley, where salt cultivation has more than 7,000 years of history. Here, you will not only learn about the fascinating process of salt production with sun and wind, but you will also be able to taste this white gold, essential in the award-winning Basque cuisine. Feel the history under your feet and discover the unique biodiversity that surrounds these ancient salt flats.

The adventure will continue in a traditional Basque cider house, where you will be enveloped by the aroma of freshly made cider. Live an authentic experience with a guided tour, learning about the art of cider making. Taste different ciders accompanied by a traditional appetizer, preparing your palate for the great feast.

To complete this pairing, enjoy a traditional cider house menu: cod omelette, fried cod with peppers, T-bone steak, and Idiazabal cheese, walnuts and quince. All this accompanied by the best cider, which you can enjoy directly from the barrels or in the bottle.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the essence of Basque gastronomy, where Añana salt and cider come together in a symphony of flavors.

3. CIDER BOMBON WORKSHOP

Did you know that the production of cider is directly linked to that of chocolate? Do you want to know how and why they are related? Book this experience and you will find out!

We will begin the visit at the Donostia chocolate shop where Lorena and Mirian will be waiting for us so that you can learn about the origin of this tradition and show you how they make their chocolates. After a short introduction to the history of chocolates and cocoa, we will go to the workshop, where we will begin with a fun cider chocolates workshop.

You will make your apple cider chocolates with the help of our chocolate makers. During the process, you will have the opportunity to discover all the secrets of cocoa and its relationship with Basque natural cider.

Once the workshop is over, we will go to a cider house where you will meet the local family, the production area, the apple orchard and finally the cellar, where we will taste the natural cider that the family makes with so much care. To round out the experience you will have the opportunity to enjoy the traditional cider house menu: homemade appetizer, cod omelette, fried cod, T-bone steak and Idiazabal cheese with walnuts and quince.
