CONDITIONS

The shepherd will open the doors of his home and his cheese factory to you so you can get to know how this highly-appreciated product is made, together with its secrets and history. This visit gives you a chance to learn about the work of Basque farmers visiting a 16th-century farmhouse. Afterwards, we will also learn about the work of the shepherds and taste the result of their work: a really exceptional cheese. You will see the pastures, milking systems, milk containers, the rennet curdling process, the press and refrigerators used, among other things. The trip continues through the landscape until we reach the cider house. You will get to know the family that runs it and the steps required to make Basque cider will be explained. You will then taste the product, first in the bottle and then, directly from the barrels while you enjoy a traditional cider house menu.

Our guide will meet you in Donostia-San Sebastián. We will visit the Igartubeiti farmhouse (16th century) and a cheese factory where we will taste Idiazabal D.O. cheese, and then go to one of our cider cellars and take a small tour of the apple orchard and all of the cider house facilities. We will also taste Basque cider in the bottle and directly from the barrels. After that, we will enjoy the traditional cider house menu.
